As an Infrastructure and Security Engineer, you will be instrumental in our migration from a hybrid to a cloud-only environment. Working as part of the infrastructure team, you’ll manage and improve existing systems, lead on technical escalations, implement new technologies, and ensure security and performance standards are consistently met.
While this is a remote-first role, occasional travel will be required to our head office in Nottingham and to other sites across the UK for on-site support and collaboration.
What you'll do as an Infrastructure and Security Engineer
- Implement, configure, and support core IT infrastructure including Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, Intune, Office 365, and related networking and storage technologies.
- Collaborate with managed service providers (MSPs) and vendors to maintain high service levels and ensure systems meet agreed performance and security standards.
- Manage escalations from the Service Desk, providing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Support the planning and delivery of infrastructure and security projects, ensuring alignment with business requirements, budgets, and timelines.
- Proactively monitor system performance, capacity, and security posture; identify and implement improvements.
- Maintain and update infrastructure documentation, standards, and operating procedures.
- Participate in security and risk management activities, including maintaining risk registers, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
- Work with stakeholders across IT and the business to ensure successful service transitions into BAU support.
- Support supplier selection and tender processes where required.
- Provide out-of-hours support on a rota basis for critical system incidents.
- Travel for on-site hardware support as required.
What you will need to be successful
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
- Experience in a hands-on IT infrastructure role
- Proven experience supporting cloud and hybrid environments (Azure, O365)
- Demonstrated experience in managing and improving infrastructure performance and security
- Experience working with third-party suppliers and MSPs
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2019+, Azure AD, Intune, and Office 365
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing)
- Experience with backup and recovery solutions
- Familiar with identity and access management, patching, and monitoring
- Analytical and methodical approach to problem solving
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Able to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Continuous learner with a proactive mindset toward technology and security
- Full UK drivers license
