DV Cleared Senior Application Packager

We are looking for an experienced DV Cleared Application Packager to join a Software Discovery and Packaging Team supporting a secure, business-critical defence environment.

This is a hands-on role covering the full application packaging life cycle, from discovery and requirements gathering through packaging, testing, deployment, maintenance and retirement. You will work across Windows 10/11 and MECM Current Branch, alongside a range of Legacy and specialist applications.

Working closely with application owners, desktop engineering, infrastructure and security teams, you will take ownership of packaging requests, manage priorities and ensure applications are delivered in line with strict security, change and release controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage application requests from initial discovery and requirements gathering through to delivery.

• Create, test and maintain application packages using MSI, MST transforms and scripted installations.

• Package complex and specialist applications, including Microsoft Office, Autodesk, engineering and scientific software.

• Build and deploy applications through MECM Current Branch, including detection methods, dependencies, supersedence, uninstall and rollback.

• Use packaging tools such as Flexera AdminStudio, InstallShield and ORCA.

• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to support packaging and deployment.

• Carry out application compatibility testing, clean-build testing and coordinate user acceptance testing.

• Maintain application packages through updates, security patches, vulnerability remediation and retirement.

• Support Windows 10/11 migration activities and contribute to OS gold builds.

• Troubleshoot complex packaging and deployment issues using installer logs, Process Monitor and other diagnostic tools.

• Follow formal Change, Release and Configuration Management processes, maintaining accurate documentation and deployment records.

• Work directly with customer stakeholders, providing clear updates on progress, risks and technical issues.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in enterprise Windows application packaging within a large or complex IT environment.

• Strong hands-on experience packaging applications for Windows 10 and Windows 11.

• Expert knowledge of Windows Installer (MSI), including MST transforms, custom actions, repair behaviour and verbose logging.

• Practical experience with Flexera AdminStudio, InstallShield and ORCA, or equivalent packaging tools.

• Strong MECM Current Branch experience, particularly application deployment, collections, distribution points, detection methods and troubleshooting.

• PowerShell Scripting experience for application packaging and deployment.

• Experience using diagnostic tools such as Process Monitor, installer logs and application capture tools.

• Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy in relation to application deployment.

• Understanding of Change and Release Management within a controlled environment.

• Strong documentation, troubleshooting and stakeholder communication skills.

• Active DV Security Clearance is essential.

Desirable Experience

• PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit (PSADT).

• Legacy application packaging, including Windows 7, App-V, BAT and VBScript installers.

• MSIX packaging, Intune Win32 applications or MECM/Intune co-management.

• VMware App Volumes, Citrix or VDI application delivery.

• Experience in defence, government or secure disconnected environments, including controlled software media handling.

• MECM OS deployment, task sequences and Windows gold build processes.

• C# or other Scripting languages used for custom actions and packaging tools.

• ServiceNow, ITIL Foundation and experience working within Agile or Waterfall delivery environments.

• This is a fully onsite role within a secure defence environment.

• Candidates must hold active DV clearance.

• The successful candidate must be comfortable working within formal security, change and release processes.
