A confidential UK organisation is seeking an AS400 Technical Lead who can tame the IBM i estate with the skill of a digital lion tamer (minus the whip, plus excellent documentation).

Are you the sort of person who dreams in RPG and thinks COBOL is poetry? Brilliant! You'll be:

• Leading the technical cavalry across our environments - from initial setup through transition to steady-state bliss
• Playing performance detective - monitoring, alerting, and keeping our systems purring like well-oiled mainframes
• Mastering the dark arts of PTFs, change management, and keeping everything current (and secure, naturally)
• Crafting disaster recovery plans that actually work - because "have you tried turning it off and on again?" isn't always viable for production systems
• Herding incidents through ITIL processes with the grace of a seasoned shepherd
• Creating documentation so clear that your future self will thank you (and so will everyone else)
• Collaborating brilliantly with service management, security, and networking teams to hit those all-important SLAs

Essential skills:

• Deep IBM i (AS400) wizardry across multiple environments - you know your way around green screens like a native
• BRMS mastery (or equivalent backup tooling) - because data loss is not an option
• Rock-solid security chops - authority management, auditing, job scheduling, the full monty
• SLA-driven service delivery experience with proper reporting and governance (no smoke and mirrors here)
• ITIL fluency across Incident, Problem, and Change management - including those heart-stopping emergency changes
• Stellar communication skills and the ability to stay calm when everything's on fire

Bonus points for:

• Experience mobilising or migrating IBM i estates to hosted/cloud platforms
• UK public sector or regulated environment experience
• Service review and KPI expertise
• Network connectivity know-how (VPNs, secure remote access, etc.)

• Contract or permanent - we're easy either way
• Part-time considered for the right candidate (because work-life balance matters)
• On-call participation required for those inevitable P1/P2 moments
• Remote-first within the UK, with occasional on-site visits when needed
• Background checks may apply (nothing too dramatic, we promise)
