Lead Tester
Overview
We are recruiting for a Lead Tester to define our testing strategy and shape its future across the firm.
This is a hands-on technical lead role where you'll lead the way in shaping our testing capabilities. You'll be deeply involved in day-to-day testing, ensuring the quality and reliability of our software solutions, and acting as the test function lead and subject matter expert in this area.
As this is a newly created position, you won't be following in anyone's footsteps. Instead, you'll set the standard, drive best practices, deliver robust test management that support successful project delivery, and influence the strategic direction of testing across the firm. You'll bring others in the wider IT team along on the journey, ensuring best practice and consistency as we evolve.

You will work closely with the Applications team and have the support of our large, and helpful, IT team.
We offer hybrid working at Walker Morris, so you'll be able to split your time between home and the office, with 2-3 days in the office per week.

As the Lead Tester, you will be responsible for:
- Lead and manage all testing, ensuring high standards of quality and timely delivery.
- Develop and maintain the test strategy, plans, and scripts for functional, regression, integration, UAT and performance testing.
- Plan, manage and execute System and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for Aderant, ensuring coverage of core functionality and custom configurations.
- Manage resources for system and user acceptance test, creating achievable test plans that reflect Aderant's architecture, hosting environment, and bespoke configurations.
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project managers to identify and resolve defects efficiently.
- Drive test automation initiatives and ensure effective use of automation tools.
- Monitor and report on testing progress, quality metrics, and risk assessments to stakeholders.
- Mentor and coach administrators and users, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Design and ensure compliance with organizational testing methodologies and information security policies.
- Work closely with the Finance team to successfully manage changes and upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption and alignment with business needs.
- Proven experience in software testing with at least 5+ years in QA roles, including 2+ years in a leadership position.
- Proven experience of manual testing and processes specifically.
- Strong understanding of testing methodologies, tools, and processes.
- Hands-on experience testing Aderant at both System and User test levels.
- Deep understanding of Aderant's technical environment and custom configurations.
- Experience managing UAT resources and creating realistic, effective test plans.
- Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks and scripting languages.
- Familiarity with Agile and DevOps environments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- ISTQB certification or equivalent is desirable.
- Knowledge of legal technology particularly Practise Management Systems and Document Management systems – Aderant and NetDocuments.
- Understand the role AI can have in testing and how to test AI products.
- Co-ordination project management skills to achieve results with a small cross functional team getting the best from those involved.
- Salary of £45,000 – £55,000 per annum, dependent upon experience.
- Earn up to 10% of your salary with our annual bonus scheme.
- Minimum of 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays per year increasing to 31 days with length of service, with the opportunity to buy/sell up to 5 days holiday per year.
- Auto enrolled into the workplace pension scheme, and we'll contribute a minimum of 6% of your salary.
- 4x your annual salary in the event of a death in service.
- Hybrid and flexible working for most roles with a minimum of 40% of your time spent in the office.
