We’re partnering with a growing network and security MSP in Hertfordshire. They want to bring a Junior Security Engineer into their team who is keen to specialise in firewalls and network security, an area where skills are in demand and careers move quickly.
This is a genuine development role. You’ll work alongside experienced security engineers, get hands-on with firewall technology across a range of customers, and be supported through certifications as your skills grow.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting, configuring and troubleshooting customer firewalls, mainly Fortinet FortiGate
- Managing firewall policies, NAT, VPNs (site-to-site and remote access) and security profiles
- Helping with firewall deployments, migrations and upgrade projects
- Visiting customer sites to install and commission security equipment
- Handling support tickets, investigating issues and escalating where needed
- Keeping clear documentation of configurations and changes
What you’ll learn
- Fortinet firewalling in depth, with support towards Fortinet certifications
- Network security best practice across a range of customer environments
- How firewalls fit into the wider network, including routing, switching and secure remote access
What we’re looking for
- Some exposure to firewalls or network security. Fortinet is preferred, but experience with Sophos, WatchGuard, Palo Alto, SonicWall, Cisco or similar is equally welcome.
- A solid grasp of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, subnetting, routing and VLANs
- A background in 1st/2nd line support, an apprenticeship, a home lab or relevant study
- A real interest in cyber and network security, and a hunger to learn
- A methodical approach to problem-solving and good customer communication
- A full UK driving licence (essential), as the role includes regular client site visits
What’s in it for you
- £28,000 – £35,000 depending on experience
- Fully funded certifications, including the Fortinet certification track (FCA/FCP and beyond)
- A clear progression path from junior to security engineer and senior engineer
- Mentoring from specialist engineers in a growing security practice
- A supportive team culture that rewards curiosity and effort
