Senior Functional Lead/Functional Architect

Travel: Up to 40%

The role requires extensive expertise in Siemens Teamcenter, SAP S/4HANA Engineering, and the integration of engineering processes, product data and CAD systems.

Working closely with business leaders, product owners and technology teams, the successful candidate will translate business requirements into scalable solutions, promote standard platform capabilities, and drive consistent engineering processes across international operations.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Leadership and Strategy

• Define and maintain the architecture roadmap for innovation, engineering and PLM capabilities.

• Partner with the functional product lead to shape priorities, scope initiatives and deliver transformation objectives.

• Provide senior functional leadership across business and technology teams.

• Align functional decisions with enterprise architecture standards and business strategy.

Business Process Design

• Lead the design and standardisation of end-to-end processes, including Concept to Launch, Engineering Change and Design to Release.

• Establish consistent approaches to product data, bills of materials, document management and engineering release.

• Support traceability between as-designed and as-built product information across PLM and ERP systems.

• Work with other functional architects to ensure effective integration with manufacturing and related business functions.

Solution Architecture and Delivery

• Translate business requirements into practical solutions using Siemens Teamcenter and SAP S/4HANA.

• Promote fit-to-standard design and SAP clean core principles, clearly explaining the business value of standard functionality.

• Define integration requirements across PLM, ERP and CAD platforms.

• Guide solution architects and subject matter experts, review designs and resolve functional and architectural issues.

• Support implementation teams throughout design, delivery and deployment.

Architecture Governance

• Maintain functional blueprints, capability maps, integration principles and design standards.

• Review proposed solutions for alignment with architecture principles and programme objectives.

• Identify and manage architectural risks, dependencies and technical debt.

• Evaluate requests for customisation and recommend appropriate solutions.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve engineering collaboration, data quality and process efficiency.

• Assess emerging PLM capabilities and technologies for their potential business value.

• Promote the adoption of consistent tools, processes and working practices.

Essential Skills and Experience

Siemens Teamcenter

• Strong functional and architectural expertise in Teamcenter PLM.

• Product data management, including item and revision management, part numbering, classification and release workflows.

• Engineering change management, including change requests, evaluation, approval, implementation, notification and impact analysis.

• Engineering bill of materials (EBOM) management, including multi-level structures, comparison and reconciliation.

• Engineering document control, version management and CAD data management.

• Teamcenter-to-SAP integration using T4S or comparable frameworks, covering material data, BOM transfer and change synchronisation.

SAP S/4HANA Engineering

• Engineering and manufacturing bill of materials (EBOM/MBOM) management, including version control and EBOM-to-MBOM transformation.

• Material master governance, material types, classification and global data harmonisation.

• Engineering change management, including change master records, effectivity and revision levels.

• Classification structures, characteristics and variant configuration in an engineering context.

CAD and Engineering Integration

• Experience integrating Teamcenter with CAD platforms such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor.

• Understanding of multi-CAD environments and engineering data exchange formats, including STEP, IGES and JT.

• Familiarity with 3D visualisation and engineering collaboration tools.

Process and Delivery Leadership

• Previous experience as a functional architect or senior functional lead within a global organisation.

• Strong understanding of product development, engineering change and design release processes.

• Experience harmonising business processes across multiple locations or business units.

• Familiarity with business process management methods and tools such as Signavio or Celonis.

• Experience working in Agile delivery environments using Jira or similar tools.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Ability to communicate complex functional and technical concepts clearly.

• Strong facilitation, collaboration and influencing skills.

• Confidence in constructively challenging requirements and guiding senior stakeholders through design decisions.

• Ability to connect architecture choices with measurable business outcomes.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• New Product Introduction (NPI) process design and Stage-Gate governance.

• Product portfolio management tools and methods.

• Model-based systems engineering and digital thread concepts.

• Configuration management principles, such as CM-II or equivalent.

• Manufacturing integration, including BOM transfer, routing creation and engineering-led work instructions.

• Experience delivering multi-year PLM, ERP or digital transformation programmes.
