Job summary

The mission of the Workforce, Training and Education (WT&E) Directorate is to ensure the NHS in England has a sufficient and inclusive workforce with the knowledge, skills, values, and behaviours to deliver compassionate high-quality health and care to the people it serves.

The WTE directorate delivers multi-professional education and training, and proactively engages with systems and partners to influence innovation and change, constructively challenge and seek assurance to lead improvements in culture,leadership and workplace experience for all, at all stages of peoples' careers within the NHS.

This post supports pharmacy training across the East of England working with the pharmacy education team, internal and external partners. You will be responsible for providing professional leadership, together with expertise, advice and support. The postholder may be expected to carry out other appropriate delegated duties as required

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to:

  • Develop, lead and implement a strategy for the education and training of pharmacists in partnership with key stakeholders across both a workforce priority and with a geographical remit.
  • Lead the delivery of the East of England regional programme and regional oversight of the national programme, including quality management processes.
  • Actively manage and support Training Programme Facilitator and Education Supervisors through leadership and facilitation of networks, in all sectors and leading cross sector opportunities.
  • Lead and support equality diversity and inclusion initiatives in pharmacy education.
  • Identify and coordinate support for medicines-related workforce transformation requiring upskilling and additional support.
  • Embed patient and public involvement within NHS England and NHS Improvement at all levels of decision making.
  • Uphold organisational policies and principles on the promotion of equality.

Ensure compliance with all confidentiality and governance requirements within the department.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide effective clinical and educational leadership, contributing to the strategic development of Regional and National Pharmacy Strategy.
  • To contribute to the vision of the local NHS and to enhance patient care by providing leadership and direction with respect to the quality of education and training.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership and management behaviours including coordinating education provision, the ability to lead beyond the team and across the department.
  • Responsible for foundation recruitment, workload allocation & team development.
  • To support compliance with requirements, particularly with regards to the supervision and support for trainees and learners.
  • To identify learning needs and support the provision of educational appraisal working alongside Pharmacy School colleagues, educator development and resource for faculty, trainees and learners as appropriate.
  • Ensure appropriate signposting and support for trainees and trainers.
  • To work with providers and others to support and capture innovation locally and share best practice.
  • To assist in the development and delivery of programmes and projects across the organisation that assist in the delivery of mandate, including supporting the development of the multi-professional workforce.
  • To emphasise the importance and promote the development of a quality learning environment for all learners.
  • To support implementation of quality processes which are complementary across the healthcare workforce.

Person Specification

Essential criteria

Essential
  • 1. Registered with the GPhC.
  • 2. Recent NHS clinical and/or education practice and experience (or equivalent).
  • 3. Clear understanding and evidence of involvement in delivery and management of healthcare education and training.
  • 4. Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters.
  • 5. Ability to manage multiple workstreams in parallel and prioritise tasks accordingly.
