Technical Lead - Chemistry Automation

Job summary

South West London Pathology (SWLP) strives to develop and promote its staff, congruent with internal promotion creating an exciting opportunity to appoint a Lead Scientist.

The successful candidate will support the network Lead and senior management team to deliver major organisational transformations following Clinical Blood Sciences recent award of its automation contract to Beckman Coulter diagnostics and imminent concurrent transition from Telepath LIMS to Winpath Enterprise to align with the rest of SWLP network.

Chemistry incorporates automation predicated on Abbott Alinity ci-series analysers connected to GLP track at St Helier and GLP task targeted automation at Epsom and manual section providing a wide array of esoteric assays.

The appointee will support the Leads in Special Chemistry and SW Thames Newborn Screening Labs. Alsodeputise for the CBS Hub Manager as needed.

SWLP is an award winning partnership between four leading Hospitals - St George's, Kingston, Epsom & St Helier and Croydon NHS Foundation Trusts respectively - designed to provide an integrated, high quality pathology service for hospitals and GPs across South West London, by consolidating the best of each Trust's service and delivering them within a single more efficient organisation model.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an enthusiastic, well organised, highly motivated individual, with exceptional communication skills, who share the values of SWLP, to lead our Automated Chemistry Department, assume operational service delivery and regulatory compliance.

We invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates with significant experience of working at a senior level in a busy Chemical Pathology Department.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in leading the transition to be part of thecreation of the new GP hub services. The post holder will have demonstrable history of extensive scientific and technical knowledge and be experiencedin managing services and staff across a networked site.

The appointee must also be fully conversant in utilising and managing laboratory vendor software and information systems,competentwith a highly developed understanding in the requirements for UKAS and Quality Management Systems.

The appointee leadership will maintain and develop high standards of quality, timely and effective service, where patient experience and safety is paramount, with commitment to training and developing the team.

This is a full time post (37.5 hrs. per week) Monday - Friday but may be required to work at other times across the sites. Applicants must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and possess an MSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent experience.
