Machining Apprenticeship within a Precision Engineering company specialising in the CNC manufacture of metal & plastic components used extensively in Scientific Instruments & Specialist Automotive Vehicle manufacture. The apprentice will work towards a Level 3 Machining Technician qualification.

Machining Technician Apprenticeship

We have an apprenticeship vacancy within a Precision Engineering company specialising in the CNC manufacture of high quality metal and plastic components used extensively in Scientific Instruments and Specialist Vehicle manufacture. The apprentice will work towards a Level 3 Machining Technician qualification and their day to day work will include:

  • Learning how to run Mazak turn mill machines (SQT/Int 100/Int 200) and setting them up.
  • Longer term, learning how to program them in Mazatrol machines and use in Feature CAM
  • How to inspect the parts being made to a high standard and tight tolerances, working to complex technical drawings. Finishing parts to a good standard, (e.g. deburring etc).
  • Programming and operating of CNC Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Reading, understanding, and interpreting engineering drawings, including tolerancing, and surface finish requirements.
  • Using hand measuring instruments.
  • Obtaining, checking and using the appropriate documentation (such as job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.)
  • Off-line programming including high end CAM systems.
  • Using mathematical techniques, formulae and calculations within the technical support environment.
  • Producing technical documentation that contains all the relevant and necessary data and information required for the technical support activity being carried out.
  • Presenting the technical documentation in the required format
    ensure that codes, symbols and other references used in the technical documentation follows agreed uk/international conventions.
  • Saving and storing technical documentation in the correct format, location in accordance with organisational and / or customer requirements.
  • Carrying out assurance control procedures within an ISO9001 environment.
  • Carrying out full quality control procedures.
  • Developing effective business and / or customer relationships.
  • Contributing to the business by identifying possible opportunities for improving working practices, processes and / or procedures.

Training

The apprentice will work towards a Level 3 Machining Technician qualification.The apprentichip will be delivered on site through a mix of online sessions and meetings. Progress will be tracked through an online portfolio and work based learning will be recorded as evidence. 

The course will be concluded with an End Point assesment consiting of:

  • Professional discussion. 
  • Observations. 
  • Presentation of evidence.
  • There is opportunity for the right candidate to move into full-time employment on successful completion of the apprenticeship.
