Custom Yacht Works (Southern) Limited are offering the chance for a candidate to take part in a Boatbuilding Apprenticeship. The successful candidate will be undertaking work in line with the building of new custom motor and sailing yachts. The restoration of classic powerboats.

Role

Undertaking work in line with the building of new custom motor and sailing yachts. The restoration of classic powerboats.

  • With this apprenticeship you will acquire all the practical skills required to become a multi-talented boatbuilder
  • You will also be able to understand and interpret a production plan and drawings, helping you turn any concept into reality
  • Refitting and repairing existing boats
  • Identify and minimise hazards and risks in the workplace
  • Prepare surfaces, treat suitably and ensure are free from defects and protected

Training

Whilst on your Apprenticeship you will be working towards completing a Boatbuilding Apprenticeship Standard (Level 3). This will be delivered as a day release at City College Southampton, along with visits to the work site by an assessor. Depending on prior learning this may also include study towards Functional Skills in maths and English if required.

This will be recognised by Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) at ‘Engineering Technician’ level on successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Following the successful completion of the course to a suitable level, the candidate will be offered a full-time position within the company as a boat builder and an increase in salary. The candidate will learn many skills both traditional and modern that other organisations may not be able to offer.
