Role Overview

We are seeking a Technical Specialist – IBM i (iSeries) System Administrator / Data Engineer to take ownership of administering IBM iSeries environments while also driving forward key digital IT initiatives. This dual-role position blends hands-on system administration with data engineering and project delivery, ensuring business needs are met with robust, scalable, and future-ready solutions.

Working closely with corporate stakeholders, divisional experts, and third-party IT vendors, the Specialist will ensure IBM iSeries environments are optimised for performance, availability, and resilience, while also contributing to wider IT transformation projects.

Key Responsibilities

IBM i (iSeries) System Administration

• Administer and support IBM iSeries systems, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and reliability, including out-of-hours (OOH) support.
• Manage and execute regular data refreshes to maintain data integrity and accuracy across environments.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance CL and RPG programmes to automate processes and improve system functionality.
• Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation covering configurations, procedures, and best practices.
• Collaborate with internal SMEs and external vendors to deliver IT solutions on time, within budget, and to specification.

Skills & Experience – What We’re Looking For

• Strong background in IBM i (iSeries) Systems Management & Administration.
• Experience with Backup & Recovery on IBM i systems.
• Working knowledge of IBM MQ Series.
• Proficiency in Query / SQL / Database Management.
• Hands-on skills in CL and RPG programming.
• Experience with JD Edwards is highly beneficial.
• Strong problem-solving ability, with excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to work across teams and vendors, balancing BAU support with project delivery.
