IT Applications Specialist - CAD & Engineering Systems
We’re seeking an experienced IT Applications Specialist with a strong background in Engineering CAD application management, licensing, and server maintenance. You’ll play a pivotal role in managing and enhancing our business-critical applications, ensuring software compliance, and supporting a highly technical engineering environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesApplication Support & Monitoring

Provide support for core business applications — particularly SharePoint Online, CAD, PDM & PLM systems.

Monitor application health and performance using automated tools and alerts.

Resolve incidents within SLA targets and maintain application configurations and security.

Maintain and improve documentation, procedures, and SOPs.
New Systems & Continuous Improvement

Work closely with vendors and internal users to capture requirements and implement effective, scalable solutions.

Lead system modernisation initiatives to improve operational efficiency.

Use formal change control and project plans to manage implementations.
Server & Patch Management
-
Plan and execute patching strategies for servers and applications.

Automate patch management processes where possible.

Ensure timely application of critical updates, security patches, and firmware upgrades.
Licensing & Renewal Management

Maintain an up-to-date inventory of software licenses and monitor usage.

Ensure vendor compliance and assist with renewals and negotiations to optimise costs.

Collaborate with departments to assess needs and recommend licensing solutions.
IT Support (3rd Line)

Provide advanced IT support, including for server and application issues.

Support account management tasks and assist in troubleshooting server-related problems.
Documentation & Reporting

Maintain clear and accurate system documentation.

Create and maintain troubleshooting guides with a view toward automation.
Stakeholder Engagement
-
Engage proactively with end-users, particularly engineering teams, to capture and implement requirements.

Build strong relationships with stakeholders to understand and address their needs.
Qualifications
-
Degree in IT, Computer Science, CAD/CAM Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL v3/4, CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator).

Must be eligible for SC clearance.

Azure Architect certifications (AZ300/303/305) desirable.
Experience
-
Proven experience in IT support/administration, ideally within an engineering environment.

Strong knowledge of CAD engineering applications.

Experience with licensing models, server management (Windows & Linux), hybrid environments, and monitoring tools.

Scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, or similar.

Azure cloud experience, ideally at architect level.

Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Desirable: knowledge of Power BI, compliance frameworks (GDPR, ISO 27001), and coding experience (Python, Java, C#).
