Structures Technician Apprentice

The role will involve the repair of Aircraft Flying Controls fitted to both Boeing and Airbus aircraft from some of the world’s largest airlines. Working in both Sheetmetal and Composite materials the Apprentice will be working with some of the UK’s most experienced Structural Technicians.

Role

Day to day role responsibilities will include:

  • Work with experienced technicians to carry out repairs to aircraft flying controls and engine nacelles
  • Carry out repair assembly work using hand and air tools
  • Fabricate repair parts from sheetmetal and composite materials
  • Assist in the testing of component undergoing repair
  • Carry out various measurement techniques to ensure parts are within tolerance
  • The role will also involve small batch production of composite and metal parts for export to various airlines worldwide

Training

  • The Apprentice will be working towards the Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • Qualifications include Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence), and Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
  • The Apprentice will be working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) - Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Pathway
  • College attendance will be at Colchester Institute Campus and online

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, the Technician will aim to become an Aircraft Component Approved Technician within the organisation, with the ability to sign off their own work.

Monday - Thursday 8.00am - 4.30pm and Friday 8.00am - 3.30pm with a 10 minute break in the morning and the afternoon and a 30 minute lunch break each day.
