Machinist Technician Apprenticeship

Job Definition:
The Apprentice will undertake training over a period of time to gain skills and competencies required to become a trained and competent member of the Company, whilst ensuring that the requirements of the Company’s Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental Management System are met.
Responsibilities:
- To safely operate CNC Machines whilst adhering to all safety policies and procedures
- Ensure equipment is running smoothly, efficiently and to optimum requirements
- Maintain a clean, neat and organised work area
- Prepare machine and equipment before and after every use
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering and machining principles
- Compliance with all quality policies and specifications, and instructions
- Compliance with ISO: 2015 requirements and safety procedures
- Properly load and unload materials into the CNC Machinery
- Use of gauges and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements
- Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform various tasks
- Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to ensure quality requirements are met
- Inspect and measure finished products
- Understand the specifications of the task at hand and the desired result
- Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function
- Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications
- Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality
- Work to the ActionPlas values
Skills (working towards):
- Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
- Computer savvy with basic understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM
- Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
- A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
- Good communication abilities
Training
You will work towards the Level 3 Machinist Technician Apprenticeship Standard, which includes Functional Skills at Level 2 if not already achieved grades 4/C or above in maths and English:
Year One through Year 3 - Day release at Appris, Bradford: EAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Machining
Year One through Year Four, Workplace Training and Mentoring towards achieving the Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours (KSBs)
Internal training, development and mentoring with highly skilled engineers in a variety of machining (CNC) areas and other engineering related duties and requirements.
In your 4th Year, you will continue to work towards your occupational competency in engineering and prepare for independent end-point assessments.
