Hardware Engineer

A growing client of ours are seeking a skilled Hardware Field Engineer to join their expanding team within a leading provider of workforce and control technologies. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for hardware, strong investigative abilities, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality installations and support services to customers across the UK.

This position requires extensive travel throughout the UK, including overnight stays of up to five nights per week during larger installation projects.

Role Responsibilities

  • Installation: Fit and configure new access control systems and clocking devices.
  • Maintenance: Service and maintain existing systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Repair: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair faults efficiently.
  • Replacement: Identify and replace faulty components or devices when necessary.
  • Technical Knowledge: Maintain a solid understanding of access control technologies and time-tracking systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Working Practices: Work independently or collaboratively, managing multiple tasks
  • effectively.

Personal Profile

A motivated and technically adept Hardware Field Engineer with experience—preferably—in installing, maintaining, and supporting access control or time and attendance systems. Demonstrates a hands-on approach to problem-solving, a commitment to excellent customer service, and the ability to work to high standards of quality and reliability.

Well-known for strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients, providing clear technical explanations and minimising disruption during on-site work. Experienced in diagnosing hardware and network issues, configuring devices, and performing upgrades across diverse environments.

Organised, proactive, and safety-conscious, with a strong focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining compliance with industry standards and company procedures. Committed to ongoing professional development and staying informed about emerging technologies in electronic security and workforce management solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

ECS/CSCS or other site-safety certification (training can be provided) - Desirable

Full UK driving licence.

Skills & Abilities

Previous experience in field service, installation, or maintenance roles.

Strong practical aptitude with an interest in electronics, IT, or engineering.

Knowledge of access control, CCTV, or time and attendance systems.

Good problem-solving ability and a logical approach to technical issues.

Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, routers, switches, Wi-Fi setup).

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

Understanding of low-voltage systems or cabling (RS485, CAT5/6).

Confident using hand tools and basic electrical or IT equipment.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or wiring diagrams.

Basic understanding of health and safety requirements on site.

Must be over 21 due to fleet insurance requirements.
