Apprentice Engineering Manufacturing technician

AG Instruments are recruiting an enthusiastic Apprentice Engineering Manufacturing/Maintenance Technician to take part in developing, manufacturing, calibrating and testing pioneering gas analysers to be used in medical gas and high voltage power applications.

Role

AG Instruments are pioneers in using infra red and other technologies to analyse gases for high precision quality control in medical gas and high voltage power applications. Our analysers are exported globally. The designs are complex and require good attention to detail. We are in a constant state of development, modifying our designs to suit market forces and improving our methods for better performance and efficiency. Core Knowledge, during your apprenticeship you will understand:

  • How to follow our internal procedures for manufacture, assembly and calibration of our products
  • Use our company intranet to find information required to perform these tasks
  • Electronics PCB level assembly including soldering
  • Small scale precision mechanical component assembly
  • Quality control, checking assemblies are ready for the next manufacturing stage
  • Calibration using our automatic calibration apparatus with compressed gases
  • Reviewing test data, interpreting results, fault finding
  • Complete test documentation including calibration certificates
  • Final assembly, inspection and packing

Skills Required:

  • Enthusiastic learner keen to gain the skills required for this job
  • Good attention to detail and focus on work
  • Work safely complying with health and safety standards and responsible for their own and colleagues’ safety. This includes working responsibly with compressed gases
  • Good knowledge of or willingness to learn computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, file structure and internet and intranet
  • Follow existing procedures accurately, ask where clarification is needed and suggest improvements
  • Select and use appropriate tools, equipment and materials to carry out the engineering operation
  • Work efficiently and effectively at all times maintaining workplace organisation and minimising waste
  • Good communication skills, ability to consult and advise colleagues, work both individually and as a team
  • Good time keeping skills, reliable trustworthy individual
  • Ability to lift heavy items up to 20 kg

Training

  • Extensive health and safety training 
  • Engineering manufacturing technician (L4/L6): 1 day per week HNC studies

Potential for future full-time employment after the Calibration Engineer apprenticeship, and growth from there.
