We are undertaking a strategic migration of our reporting and analytics estate from SSRS to a modern cloud data platform (Snowflake). This role will support the design and delivery of that transformation—establishing best-in-class practices while remaining hands-on in building models, pipelines, and reporting layers.
\n
You will play a critical role in not just migrating existing assets, but improving how we model, govern, and deliver data across the organisation.

What does the job involve?
\n
Support the Migration from Legacy BI to Modern Data Platform
\n
- \n
- Support the end-to-end migration of reporting assets from SSRS into Snowflake
\nAssess and rationalise existing reports (remove duplication, improve logic, simplify where possible)Redesign reporting structures to align with modern data modelling principles\n
Define and Implement Best Practice
\n
- \n
- Establish scalable standards for:\n
- \n
- Data modelling (e.g. dimensional modelling, layered architecture)
- Transformation workflows (ELT patterns)
\n \n
\n Testing and validationDocumentation and governanceIntroduce modern development practices (e.g. version control, CI/CD where appropriate)\n
Hands-On Delivery
\n
- \n
- Build and optimise data models, transformations, and reporting datasets
\nWrite high-quality, performant SQL in SnowflakeDevelop reusable data assets for downstream reporting and analyticsTroubleshoot and resolve data quality or performance issues\n
Improve the Reporting & Analytics Layer
\n

- Design a clean, scalable semantic layer for reporting
\nStandardise key business metrics and definitionsSupport transition away from legacy report-first design toward model-first design\n
Mentor and Uplift the Existing Team
\n
- \n
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to BI developers and analysts
\nRaise engineering standards across the teamPromote consistency and good practices without over-engineering\n
Stakeholder Collaboration
\n
- \n
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs
\nTranslate requirements into robust, scalable data solutionsChallenge and refine requirements where needed to improve outcomes\n
Essential
\n
- \n
- Strong SQL expertise (advanced level)
\nProven experience working with Snowflake (or similar cloud data warehouse)Experience migrating from legacy BI/reporting tools (e.g. SSRS, Cognos, Business Objects)Strong data modelling experience (dimensional modelling, star schemas, etc.)Experience building transformation layers in ELT environmentsTrack record of delivering in hands-on roles (not purely architectural)\n
Highly Desirable

- Experience with dbt or similar transformation frameworks
\nFamiliarity with modern data stack principlesExperience implementing testing and data quality frameworksExposure to CI/CD in data environmentsExperience rationalising large, complex reporting estates\n
