Junior Data Scientist

Junior Data Scientist

Location: Liverpool (Hybrid)

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000

The Opportunity

I’m currently working with a fast-growing technology business operating within the property and transaction space, looking to hire a Junior Data Scientist to join their growing data and AI function.

This is a fantastic opportunity for either a recent graduate with strong technical foundations, or someone early in their commercial career looking to work on genuinely impactful real-world AI and data problems.

The business has built a large multi-year dataset at the core of its platform and is now focused on increasing automation across a range of complex workflows and decision-making processes using AI, Python, and data-driven logic.

You’ll work closely with operational and technical stakeholders, helping design and improve automated decision-making systems that directly impact the day-to-day running of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse large, complex datasets to identify operational patterns and opportunities for automation
  • Build and improve AI-driven workflows and automated decision-making logic
  • Work with structured and unstructured data, including real-world text-heavy datasets
  • Develop solutions using Python and SQL across ingestion, transformation, analysis, and automation tasks
  • Experiment with LLMs and prompting techniques to improve automation accuracy
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of automated processes, identifying areas for improvement
  • Collaborate closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across the business
  • Prototype and iterate quickly rather than over-engineering theoretical solutions

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong foundations in Python and SQL
  • Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving ability and logical thinking
  • Comfortable working with data and breaking down ambiguous problems
  • Genuine curiosity around AI, automation, and real-world applications of data
  • Good communication skills and ability to explain your thinking clearly
  • Authorisation to work in the UK without sponsorship, either now or in the future

Nice to Have

  • Internship, placement year, personal projects, or commercial experience involving data or AI
  • Exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering, or AI tooling
  • Experience working with APIs or data ingestion
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as GCP or BigQuery
  • Experience handling messy or real-world datasets outside of purely academic projects

The Culture Fit

This role would suit someone who enjoys learning by doing and wants to work in an environment where they can have real ownership and impact early in their career.

The team values curiosity, experimentation, and practical problem-solving over polished presentations or overly theoretical approaches. If you enjoy building things, figuring problems out, and seeing your work used in the real world, this could be a great fit.
