Smart Building Infrastructure Technician

About the Role
We’re seeking a Smart Building Infrastructure Technician to join a dedicated on-site team at Gatwick Airport, delivering installation and support services across a wide range of smart building technologies. From structured cabling and audio-visual systems to electronic security, IoT, and wireless networks, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation in a live, complex environment.

Key Responsibilities
You’ll play a critical role in the installation, testing, and maintenance of smart infrastructure systems, including:
  • Installing and testing copper (CAT-5e/6/6A), fibre optic (OS1/2, OM3/4/5), and voice (CW1308) cabling
  • Installing electronic security and audio-visual infrastructure
  • Assembling and installing telecoms cabinets and containment systems (tray, basket, conduit)
  • Fitting end-point devices: CCTV cameras, access control units, Wi-Fi access points, IoT sensors
  • Installing network hardware (switches, routers, servers)
  • Supporting commissioning, fault-finding, and relocation of equipment
  • Completing accurate documentation and progress reporting
  • Maintaining site safety and following RAMS and health & safety procedures at all times
What We’re Looking For
We want to hear from individuals with:
Essential
  • Minimum 3 years’ hands-on experience in ICT infrastructure installation
  • Strong knowledge of copper and fibre testing (ideally using Fluke, OTDR, etc.)
  • ECS/CSCS card
  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g., CNet CNCI®, CNIT®, BICSI Level 2/3)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Willingness to work night shifts and overtime when required
Desirable
  • Experience in live environments like airports or transport hubs
  • Familiarity with IoT, Wi-Fi/Mobile networks, AV and security systems
  • IPAF/PASMA, First Aid, and additional H&S training
  • GCSEs (A*-C) in English and Maths

  • Solid understanding of IT network architecture and cabling standards
  • Competence with Fluke/Linkware test equipment and cable certification standards
  • Effective communicator and proactive problem-solver
  • Attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety
  • Ability to work from technical drawings and construction specs
  • Self-motivated, punctual, and team-oriented

Working Hours:
  • Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 5:00pm
  • Flexibility for night shifts (7:30pm – 5:00am)
  • Overtime opportunities available
