Cyber Security Apprentice
As a Cyber Security Apprentice, you will support the organisation in identifying and mitigating cyber threats to protect critical systems and data. This apprenticeship will prepare you to analyse risks, develop controls, respond to incidents, provide support and advise stakeholders on security best practices.
Role
As a Cyber Security Apprentice, you will support the organisation in identifying and mitigating cyber threats to protect critical systems and data. You’ll be embedded in the Cyber Security or IT function, gaining real-world experience while studying towards a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions with a Cyber Security specialism. This apprenticeship will prepare you to analyse risks, develop controls, respond to incidents, provide support and advise stakeholders on security best practices.
Duties include:
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide first-line support to staff and users via phone, email, or in person
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software and security issues
- Log and escalate unresolved issues to senior technicians
- Assist with password resets, account access, and basic user queries
Hardware & Software Maintenance
- Install and configure PCs, printers, scanners, and Audio Visual
- Perform routine maintenance and upgrades on devices
- Replace faulty components (e.g., RAM, hard drives, cables)
- Maintain and update anti-virus software across systems
Network & Systems Support
- Monitor and maintain local area networks (LANs) and Wi-Fi connectivity
- Assist with network cabling and physical connectivity tasks
- Help manage user accounts and permissions on servers
- Support data backup routines and system updates
Administrative & Documentation Tasks
- Maintain asset inventories of ICT equipment
- Document support tickets and resolutions for audit trails
- Update technical documentation and user guides
- Track and replenish consumables like toner and cables
Security & Compliance
- Apply basic cybersecurity practices (e.g., software patching, access control)
Support ISO27001 application
- Monitor internet usage in line with acceptable use policies
- Follow GDPR and data protection guidelines
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies
Learning & Development
- Participate in training sessions and complete coursework
- Shadow senior technicians to gain hands-on experience
- Attend regular progress reviews with mentors and training providers
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices
Training
- You will be pursuing a Level 6 Apprenticeship Standard in Digital and Technology Solutions through Weston College
- As part of this programme, you will attend Weston College as instructed for workshops
- An assessor will conduct on-site observations to evaluate your progress, as well as support you in college throughout your apprenticeship
- At the conclusion of your programme, your qualification will be assessed through an Apprenticeship Assessment
- Placement within Ascent or Partner organisations dependent upon vacancies
