Chief Combat Systems Engineer

This is a high-impact leadership role working at the forefront of defence technology, shaping how next-generation combat systems are developed and delivered. You’ll play a critical part in modernising complex systems using cutting-edge cloud approaches in highly secure environments.

Role Overview:

• Location: Bristol (primarily onsite with some flexibility)
• Package: Up to £130,000 + benefits
• Industry: Defence / Technology

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Lead and develop a team of engineers delivering advanced submarine combat systems
• Drive the adoption of modern, cloud-based technologies within highly secure, disconnected environments
• Act as a key interface between technical teams and senior stakeholders across critical programmes
• Shape engineering strategy, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and future-ready
• Provide hands-on technical leadership, guiding architecture and design decisions
• Collaborate closely with delivery and programme teams to ensure successful outcomes

Main Skills Needed:

• Strong background in naval or combat systems engineering
• Experience working with cloud-based technologies in secure or restricted environments
• Proven ability to lead and inspire engineering teams
• Confident stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences
• Hands-on technical expertise with a strategic mindset
• Experience operating in defence or similarly regulated industries
• Active DV clearance (or SC with eligibility for DV)
