Data Manager

Introduction

This independent UK energy supplier is on a mission to harness the power of data to drive smarter decisions across the business. They’re now looking for a commercially minded Data Manager to shape strategy, strengthen governance, and lead a growing data function at the heart of their operations.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Define and deliver a company-wide data strategy aligned with IT and business goals.
  • Establish governance frameworks, policies, and compliance standards (GDPR, industry regs).
  • Lead and coordinate data SMEs across business units, fostering collaboration and alignment.
  • Partner with IT to design a unified data infrastructure and select the right analytics tools.
  • Drive data quality initiatives, setting ownership and standards for key datasets.
  • Hire, mentor, and upskill data professionals across the organisation.
  • Manage project pipelines, ensuring resources are prioritised for maximum business impact.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Stay ahead of emerging tech, piloting innovations that add real value.

Main Skills Needed:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • 6+ years in data roles, with at least 2 years in leadership.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, pipelines, and database technologies.
  • Proven experience with governance frameworks, BI tools (Power BI, Tableau), and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Knowledge of GDPR and data security best practices.
  • Skilled communicator, able to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Track record of leading cross-functional data teams and projects.
  • (Desirable) Experience in energy/utilities, billing, or regulatory reporting.
