Head of Application

What You’ll Be Doing:
- Setting the direction for how enterprise applications are designed, built, and maintained across the organisation
- Defining clear standards, patterns, and delivery approaches that teams can consistently work to
- Shaping and owning the roadmap for modernising legacy applications, including re-platforming and retirement strategies
- Guiding solution design across major change programmes to ensure alignment with business outcomes
- Working closely with product, engineering, and enterprise architecture to drive joined-up decision-making
- Ensuring applications are secure, scalable, and well-integrated across platforms and services
- Overseeing application lifecycle management, from selection through to optimisation
- Driving improvements in delivery quality, performance, and reduction of technical debt
- Building, mentoring, and leading a community of solution architects and technical leaders
- Senior-level experience in application engineering, solution architecture, or technical leadership within large enterprises
- Strong background designing and integrating complex, multi-domain application landscapes
- Deep understanding of modern architectures including APIs, microservices, event-driven and cloud-native patterns
- Experience working with both packaged platforms (ERP, CRM, core systems) and custom-built solutions
- Ability to manage technical risk, vendor solutions, and delivery trade-offs
- Knowledge of secure application development, data privacy, and regulatory considerations
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and application monitoring
- Confident stakeholder engagement skills, translating technical decisions into business value
