Infrastructure Engineer

Introduction

A highly secure organisation is strengthening its infrastructure capability and needs a Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineer who can keep critical services running smoothly. You’ll step into a role where your technical leadership directly supports complex, sensitive environments.

Role Overview:

Location: 3 days On-site in a secure environment - Milton Keynes (SC clearance required)

Package: 12-month fixed-term contract

Industry: Secure government / infrastructure operations

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Leading and supporting an operations team to keep core infrastructure stable and performant.
• Owning the flow of incident management — prioritising, coordinating and driving quick resolutions.
• Working hand-in-hand with project, capacity and availability teams to diagnose issues and prevent recurrences.
• Identifying repeat problems and ensuring they’re escalated to the right technical specialists.
• Coaching and mentoring junior engineers to raise capability across the team.

Main Skills Needed:

• Strong background working in highly secure technical environments.
• Deep knowledge across Cisco networking (switching, routing, wireless, ASA, Firepower), plus core protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, ICMP, OSPF and IPSEC.
• Experience managing modern firewalls (Cisco, Palo Alto) and enterprise network tools (ISE, Prime, PRTG).
• Solid understanding of virtualised environments and virtual networking (e.g. VMware).
• Familiarity with F5 load balancing (LTM/ASM), ACI and cloud environments (Azure or AWS).
