Job Title: Desktop Support Technician

Job Type: 3-month contract

Our client is seeking a skilled and dedicated Desktop Support Technician to provide high-quality desktop support and maintenance services. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that IT support meets or exceeds the standards outlined in Service Level Agreements (SLAs), delivering exceptional customer care to all users of PCs, laptops, tablets, and peripherals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 2nd line support for desktop/client applications, ensuring the effective resolution of issues.
  • Support and maintain all PCs, laptops, mobile computing devices, and peripheral devices including printers and scanners.
  • Perform application triage for technical issues, suggesting alternative solutions as necessary.
  • Act as an incident manager on a rotational basis for the IT Support Services team.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues within the desktop environment.
  • Configure and deploy computer and peripheral devices, applying standard images as required.
  • Patch end-user networked devices back to edge Switches at the port level.
  • Accurately diagnose application faults with key national applications.
  • Liaise with third-party suppliers and maintainers such as Dell and HP regarding hardware and software faults.
  • Assist with the delivery of projects, including clinical system migrations and the implementation of new sites.
  • Maintain detailed records of work activities on the Service Management system, ensuring accurate logging and reporting of service disruptions.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of user guides and documentation for desktop systems and services.
  • Support data and information security requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in desktop support, including 2nd line support for hardware and software.
  • Strong knowledge of desktop operating systems and applications, particularly in a healthcare or similar environment.
  • Familiarity with data backup and recovery technologies, network protocols, and server operating systems (Microsoft Server and/or Linux).
  • Excellent diagnostic skills for identifying and resolving technical issues across various platforms.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with users, management, and third-party suppliers.
  • Experience in user acceptance testing (UAT) and the ability to assist users during testing phases.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
