Housing Needs Research and Data Analyst
Full-Time (36 hrs/week) | Hybrid | 2-3 Days per Week at Dockside, Newham Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM
Are you a data specialist passionate about using insight to shape public services and combat homelessness? Newham Council is seeking a Housing Needs Research & Data Analyst for a pivotal three-month contract supporting a data-driven transformation of Housing Needs services.
About the RoleThis role is central to Newham's mission to deliver a robust, intelligence-led approach to tackling homelessness. You will turn complex datasets into actionable insight, influence strategy, and support senior leaders-including the Mayor, Cabinet, Councillors, Directors, and Chief Executive.
Your work will directly shape decisions, performance improvements, and long-term service design.
What You'll Be Doing Data, Reporting & Business Intelligence- Manage and operate key data systems, delivering professional and high-impact reports.
- Lead analytical and BI activities across major transformation projects.
- Use data to identify issues, predict trends, propose solutions, and guide service improvement.
- Produce insight for senior leadership to support strategic decision-making.
- Deliver advanced reporting using T-SQL and Power BI.
- Interpret and present complex data clearly, measuring service performance and outcomes.
- Maintain continuity of systems supporting homelessness and housing allocation services.
- Build high-quality Power BI dashboards and reporting tools for intelligence purposes.
- Develop robust data controls ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Manage templates, automate reporting, respond to FOIs, and present findings both written and verbally.
- Analyse business processes and advise on improvements for Housing Needs and Allocations Services.
- Data collation, statistical analysis, and performance management systems.
- Understanding of local government, housing needs, and statutory homelessness reporting (advantageous).
- Awareness of information governance, political context, and organisational change.
- GCSE Maths & English (Grade 4-9) or equivalent relevant experience.
- Recognised data analysis or continuous improvement accreditation.
- Applied statistical techniques and research methodology.
- Building structured performance reports using IT systems.
- Using data and performance systems to support large-scale service redesign.
- Leading on complex data, research, or policy-driven projects.
- Working with senior leaders to define BI requirements and automated reporting outputs.
