Critical Environment Field Service Engineer
Pay Rate: £60.00 Per Hour
Working Conditions
Monday-Friday, core hours between 7 AM and 7 PM.
Onsite presence required at the datacenter at least two days per week. Supplier-provided Windows 11-compatible laptop required.
We are seeking a highly skilled Critical Environment Field Service Engineer to support and maintain high-availability datacentre operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with strong mechanical/electrical expertise and a passion for delivering safe, secure, and reliable critical infrastructure services. You will play a key role in ensuring operational continuity, driving incident response, supporting service delivery, and maintaining compliance across complex datacentre environments.
Responsibilities:
Data Centre Operations:
- Ensure full compliance with datacenter policies, safety standards, and service-level expectations.
- Execute tasks and projects in collaboration with cross-functional technical teams.
- Manage operational programs and contribute to Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes.
- Lead or support incident response efforts for critical infrastructure failures, ensuring rapid recovery and minimal downtime.
- Identify risks in the critical environment and implement mitigation strategies.
- Manage vendor relationships for equipment maintenance, repairs, and emergency services.
- Share knowledge with team members to strengthen operational capability and technical understanding.
Service Delivery
- Maximise Critical Environment (CE) availability in partnership with landlord datacenter teams.
- Oversee day-to-day operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems (MOP/SOP/EOP review, RCAs, FMEAs, change governance).
- Reduce high-impact and human-error incidents year-on-year.
- Support energy-efficiency and cost-optimisation initiatives.
- Act as an escalation point for facilities-related issues and support emergency preparedness and response plans.
- Coordinate CE audits, compliance checks, and regular reporting of power, temperature, humidity, and SLA metrics.
Data Centre Work Environment
- Recommend risk-reducing improvements to maintenance procedures and scheduling.
- Suggest implementation improvements based on technical understanding and operational insight.
Ownership & Leadership
- Take accountability for end-to-end service quality, safety, security, and customer experience.
- Escalate issues to appropriate owners when required, ensuring timely action and resolution.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) and experience in a datacenter or critical environment facility OR experience plus relevant college coursework.
- Previous experience as a senior authorised person or authorised person for mechanical or electrical systems.
Preferred
- Experience working with CE infrastructures (UPS, generators, AHUs).
- Bachelor's degree or technical certification in mechanical/electrical engineering or a related field.
- Experience delivering large-scale CE projects.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure (servers, SANs, networking, etc.).

- Steel/composite toe lace-up boots (ASTM F2413-05 compliant).
- Type 2 ANSI Z89-approved hard hat/helmet.
- ANSI/CE/EN-approved safety glasses with side shields.
- Level 5 cut/abrasion/impact-resistant gloves.
- High-visibility vest.
- Multiple-use ear plugs.
