Location: London
Contract Length: 6months (rolling up to 2 years)
Pay rate: Between £416 - £490 pwd Umbrella.
A leading global investment bank is seeking a System Support AVP to join its technology function in London. This role sits within a core engineering team responsible for supporting and maintaining critical internal systems across the organisation.
The Role
You will play a key role in supporting production systems, ensuring stability, performance, and rapid issue resolution. This is a hands-on role combining technical troubleshooting, stakeholder communication, and continuous improvement of support processes.
You’ll work closely with development teams, infrastructure, and global support teams (including London and New York) to diagnose issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve production system issues across Windows servers, SQL Server, and Oracle environments
- Perform root cause analysis and implement fixes (code, SQL scripting, configuration)
- Liaise with internal teams (Infrastructure, Network, DBA, Helpdesk) and external stakeholders
- Provide clear communication and updates to business users and support teams
- Support application releases and ensure smooth deployment into production
- Contribute to system stability, scalability, and security improvements
- Participate in an out-of-hours support rota
- Maintain accurate documentation, ticketing, and incident reporting
- Support disaster recovery environments and non-production systems
Requirements
- Strong experience in application/system support within enterprise environments
- Hands-on knowledge of SQL (T-SQL or PL/SQL)
- Experience with Windows Server environments and database systems
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex production issues
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working in banking or regulated environments is highly desirable
