Quality Assurance Automation Engineer

QA Automation Engineer, 6 month contract, £400 p/d (inside IR35), Belfast

Our client is seeking an experienced Test Automation Engineer to join their engineering hub. This role supports ongoing platform and product delivery by strengthening automated testing practices and improving overall test reliability. Working as part of cross‐functional teams, the successful candidate will take ownership of automation solutions and contribute directly to the quality and stability of core systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and enhance automated test suites using TypeScript and Playwright.
• Design scalable, maintainable automated tests for web applications and supporting services.
• Improve test reliability, performance, and signal quality within CI/CD pipelines.
• Troubleshoot and reduce test flakiness and coverage gaps.
• Embed automated testing throughout the SDLC in collaboration with engineering and product teams.
• Support integration, end‐to‐end, and regression testing strategies.
• Contribute to root‐cause analysis and continuous quality improvements.
• Ensure automated testing aligns with engineering standards, security requirements, and release processes.

Essential Criteria

• Strong background in QA and test automation engineering.
• Hands‐on experience with TypeScript and Playwright.
• Working knowledge of AWS and cloud‐native environments.
• Familiarity with Java‐based backend systems.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Comfortable working within cross‐functional, agile teams.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and coach on automation best practices.
• Mid‐to‐senior level capability, able to work independently and drive improvements proactively.
