Senior Developer
Job Title: Senior Developer Contract Type: Permanent, Part Time, Full Time, Job Share option available Salary Range: £44,800 - £67,200 Location: Any location within the UK Closing Date for applications: Tuesday 10th March
Senior Developer: In this role you will lead on technical design and development, support best practice across the team, and help deliver high quality, secure applications that support our business and customers.Main Responsibilities as Senior Developer:
- Design and maintain core business applications hosted on the IBMi platform and developed in RPG
- Deliver solutions that meet business needs and deliver tangible value
- Act as the development lead for multiple projects and change initiatives
- Work closely with other Senior Developers to stay aligned and deliver strong solutions
- Ensure all code is efficient, secure and easy to maintain
- Contribute to the definition and promotion of technical standards and ways of working across the team
- Create and maintain good quality and accurate documentation such as functional design documents and user or troubleshooting guides
- Communicate clearly, openly and in a timely manner with all colleagues, modifying your style to suit both technical and non-technical audiences
- Embrace modernisation and proactively seek and suggest improvements
- Demonstrate pragmatism over perfection
- Create strong relationships both within IT and across the wider organisation to help build a clear understanding of all business areas, systems and user needs
Skills and experience you need as Senior Developer:
- Excellent knowledge and practical experience in developing and maintaining RPG applications using free format RPG IV syntax and ILE techniques such as procedures, service programs, binding directories and embedded SQL.
- Familiarity with RPG400/RPG III
- Experience with the following tools is an advantage:
- Rational Developer for i (RDi), CA 2E (formerly Synon), RPG Smartpages, HTML / CSS / JavaScript, Interform & Interword
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of the IBMi platform and architecture
- Take accountability and responsibility – own a problem through to resolution
- Display a positive and can-do attitude – act as a role model for others
- Be highly organised and able to multi-task efficiently
