Job summary

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is planning to deploy a new EPR which will lead to the transformation of care at the hospital during 2026/7.

In 2018 Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust andCalderdaleand Huddersfield NHSTrust deployed a single instance of Oracle Health Millennium across both Trusts, in one of thebiggestprogrammesof its kind in the UK, to date.Airedale is working inpartnershipwiththese Trusts to extend EPR to include our hospital.

EPR is an ambitious programme to transform care for our patients and staff. At the core of the programme is a new Electronic Patient Record system (EPR), however, EPR is about so much more. It's an opportunity to improve how we work as a team, make care safer and support staff to spend time on the things that make the biggest difference to patients.

Airedale now plans to join the other two Trusts who will work collectively to not only deploy this system at Airedale but more importantly, use the deployment as a lever to further improve the delivery of care at all three.

Main duties of the job

To act as the appointed Trust Clinical Safety Officer coordinating clinical safety activities associated with EPR and wider digital health systems across the organisation.

The post holder will act as lead specialist for clinical governance and clinical risk management for EPR.

Reporting to the Chief Clinical Information Officer, the Clinical Safety Officer will coordinate, support and provide a source of clinical safety expertise to colleagues working across the organisation and in the wider health community. The post holder will provide specialist training in clinical governance issues.

The post holder will be an active member of the Clinical Informatics Team and will be responsible for promoting and increasing awareness of clinical safety activities across the organisation and wider health community.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Masters level qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional and/or personal self-development
  • Current professional registration with a regulatory body within Health or Social Care (e.g. Medical, Nursing, Allied Health Professional or Social Care)
  • Degree or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study or employment
Desirable
  • NHS Digital Clinical Safety Accreditation
  • Prince2 Practitioner
  • IT related degree or an equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential
  • Clinical Safety experience
  • Risk Management experience
  • Relevant clinical experience. (In depth knowledge of the practice of related healthcare, clinical workflow andsupporting business processes)
  • In depth knowledge of HealthIT Systems, human factors and their contribution and control in the context of patient harm
  • Experience of working with clinicians, managers and other stakeholders
  • Meet the key competencies specified in DCB0160
  • Knowledge and understanding of all legal and statutory matters in relation to the maintenance of clinical safety in the manufacture and adoption of IT health systems including the DCB0129 and DCB 0160 standards and requirements. Also Data Protection Impact Assessments and Medical Devices regulation requirements
  • Knowledgeable in risk management and its application to clinical domains
  • In-depth understanding of the ways in which healthcare professionals use information in support of patient care
  • IT user-level skills experience in the use of digital systems in a clinical context
  • A thorough understanding of why and how errors occur in the development, deployment and subsequent use of Health IT Systems and how these can result in patient harm
  • Knowledge of measures that can be effectively applied to reduce associated clinical risk through the procurement, development and deployment of Health IT Systems
  • Extensive experience of managing conflicting demands from the various points of view and assessing the requirement of patient safety
Desirable
  • Experience as a Clinical Safety Officer
  • Knowledge of project & programme management methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2, MSP, Agile)
  • Experience of involvement in the specification, development, or implementation of information systems
