As a Firmware / FPGA Engineer, you will be involved throughout the complete development lifecycle, including requirements capture, architecture, design, implementation, verification, validation and documentation. Working within multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will contribute to the development of high-performance digital electronic systems using modern FPGA and SoC technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver firmware projects to agreed cost, quality and schedule objectives.
- Develop requirements, architectures and RTL designs for FPGA-based systems.
- Implement, simulate and verify digital logic designs and support hardware integration activities.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, reports and development artefacts.
- Support scripting, automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with systems, hardware, embedded software and algorithm engineering teams.
- Ensure designs align with relevant safety, quality and security standards, including DO-254, IEC 61508, IEC 62443 and ISO 26262.
Required Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:
- RTL design and development using VHDL for FPGA-based systems.
- Xilinx, AMD or Lattice FPGA architectures.
- FPGA SoC implementations of algorithms developed within MATLAB/Simulink environments.
- Verification methodologies including OSVVM, UVVM or UVM.
- FPGA communication and interface technologies such as AXI, PCIe, Ethernet, OCP, Wishbone, JESD204, CameraLink and SMPTE.
- Development tools including Vivado, ModelSim, Vitis, Diamond, Radiant, Propel and DOORS.
- Scripting using TCL or similar scripting languages.
- Structured firmware development processes and DO-254 environments.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within defence, aerospace or other highly regulated engineering environments.
- Experience working as part of Integrated Project Teams (IPTs).
- Previous technical leadership or mentoring responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
