Overview

The Finance department is seeking a Business Analyst / Data Analyst to support the transformation of an existing reinsurance reporting and operational process currently managed by CIC.

The current process relies heavily on large Excel workbooks which have become difficult to maintain, scale, and support. The objective is to modernise the process by migrating data management and reporting capabilities into Snowflake, reducing manual effort through automation and improving data quality, governance, and performance.

Business Context

  • Existing process is owned by Finance and supported by the Data team.
  • Current solution consists primarily of large Excel-based files.
  • The existing approach is no longer fit for purpose due to file size, complexity, and operational inefficiencies.
  • Daily source data is received via Velonetic-generated files.
  • The organisation is looking to establish a scalable, automated solution leveraging Snowflake and modern data engineering practices.

Key Objectives

Current State

  • Manual and Excel-driven process.
  • Large, complex workbooks with performance and maintenance challenges.
  • Significant manual intervention required for data preparation and analysis.

Future State

  • Ingest daily Velonetic files into Snowflake.
  • Automate data processing and validation workflows.
  • Reduce dependency on Excel-based reporting.
  • Create scalable and governed data models.
  • Improve reporting accuracy, timeliness, and auditability.
  • Enable Finance users to access trusted and automated data outputs.

Responsibilities

Business Analysis

  • Analyse and document current-state processes and data flows.
  • Identify pain points, inefficiencies, and automation opportunities.
  • Gather and document business requirements from Finance stakeholders.
  • Define future-state processes and data requirements.
  • Support testing, validation, and implementation activities.

Data Analysis

  • Analyse source data from Velonetic and existing Excel-based processes.
  • Perform data profiling, reconciliation, and quality assessments.
  • Develop SQL queries to support analysis and validation activities.
  • Work with Finance stakeholders to understand reporting and operational requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into data specifications.

Data Transformation & Automation

  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to design Snowflake-based solutions.
  • Support the development of automated ingestion and transformation processes.
  • Assist in defining data models, business rules, and validation controls.
  • Contribute to the design of reporting and analytical datasets.

Required Experience

Technical Skills

  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Proven data analysis experience.
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets.
  • Understanding of data transformation and automation initiatives.
  • Experience working alongside Data Engineering teams.
  • Exposure to Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms preferred.

Domain Knowledge

  • Insurance industry experience essential.
  • Reinsurance experience highly desirable.
  • Understanding of Finance data and reporting processes.
