A leading Insurance Client is seeking a Head of Intelligent Automation to drive enterprise-wide AI-enabled automation across underwriting, claims, operations and finance.
This is a strategic leadership opportunity to transform traditional RPA into next-generation, AI-powered automation that enhances underwriting performance, accelerates claims handling and reduces operational friction across the value chain.
You will operate at senior leadership level, partnering with Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial, Risk and Technology to embed intelligent automation as a core enabler of underwriting excellence and profitable growth.
The Role
As Head of Intelligent Automation, you will:
- Define and execute the enterprise automation and AI roadmap across the insurance lifecycle
- Transition rule-based RPA into intelligent, decision-led automation (Agentic Process Automation)
- Deploy AI-driven solutions to enhance underwriting efficiency, bordereaux processing, claims triage and regulatory reporting
- Partner with business leaders to position automation as a driver of underwriting margin and operational scalability
- Lead and scale a high-performing automation and AI team
- Maintain technical oversight across architecture, AI integration and governance
Your Responsibilities:
Insurance-Focused Automation
- Automate underwriting workflows, risk data ingestion and broker submission processing
- Implement intelligent document processing for slips, endorsements, claims notifications and bordereaux
- Deploy AI-powered claims triage, fraud detection and exception handling workflows
- Support digital trading and delegated authority process optimisation
AI-Driven Innovation
- Embed LLMs, NLP, classification models and vision AI into core insurance processes
- Develop self-improving, decision-driven workflows that reduce manual touchpoints
- Lead AI governance and validation frameworks aligned with regulatory expectations
Leadership & Commercial Impact
- Build ROI cases demonstrating automation impact on combined ratio and expense ratio
- Present automation strategy and performance metrics to executive leadership
- Establish best practices across automation architecture, model risk and platform scalability
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience delivering automation within Insurance (London Market highly desirable)
- Strong hands-on expertise in platforms such as UiPath, Power Automate, Blue Prism or similar
- Experience integrating AI/ML models (LLMs, NLP, computer vision) into operational workflows
- Strong understanding of underwriting, claims or delegated authority processes
- Experience leading and mentoring technical teams
- Ability to communicate technical automation strategy to senior non-technical stakeholders
- Background in regulated financial services environments
