We are partnering with a well-established Commercial Insurer that is looking to hire a Junior Database Administrator to join its Technology team.
As the organisation continues to invest in modernising its core Policy Administration System (PAS) and digital infrastructure, this role will support the stability, performance, and optimisation of its database environments.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their DBA career to develop their technical expertise within a structured, enterprise insurance environment.
The Role
As a Junior Database Administrator, you will sit within the central Technology function, supporting and maintaining the databases that underpin the insurer’s Policy Administration System and associated platforms.
This is a hands-on technical role focused on database health, performance tuning, monitoring, security, and system reliability.
You will work closely with Senior DBAs, Infrastructure Engineers, and Application Support teams to ensure database environments operate efficiently and securely.
What You’ll Be Doing
Monitor and maintain SQL Server database environments supporting the Policy Administration System
Assist with database performance tuning, indexing strategies, and optimisation
Manage backups, restores, patching, and disaster recovery processes
Support system upgrades, releases, and environment refreshes
Assist with data migrations and deployment activities across development, test, and production environments
Write and optimise SQL scripts to support system maintenance and technical troubleshooting
Monitor database security, user permissions, and access controls
Investigate and resolve database-related incidents and performance issues
Contribute to automation initiatives and infrastructure improvements
Maintain technical documentation and database standards
What We’re Looking For
1–3 years’ experience in database administration or infrastructure support
Strong working knowledge of SQL Server (or similar relational database systems)
Understanding of indexing, query optimisation, backups, and recovery models
Exposure to enterprise applications such as Policy Administration Systems advantageous
Familiarity with high-availability environments (clustering, replication, or Always On) beneficial
Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Python, or similar) advantageous
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to system reliability
Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
