The Senior Developer role will work collaboratively within a multi-functional team of Developers, DevOps Engineers, QA Analysts and Product Owners to enhance and create software application to a high standard. Working within a Scrum squad you will have support and mentorship to flourish while joining and contributing to all the sprint events and help facilitate the team successfully completing the sprint objectives

What that means day to day

  • Be an integral part of the development team, actively supporting development of tools, services and platforms.
  • Review and contribute to the ongoing improvement of team practices and Ways of Working with an aim to making the team more effective and improving delivery.
  • Collaborate with other teams – both within the Technology department and across the business - to identify improvements to existing processes and services or where new services could be developed.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders in the collection and documentation of user requirements and the development of user stories.
  • Plan, write, test and maintain code for web, mobile and desktop business applications in accordance with established standards in an Agile environment.
  • Troubleshoot and assist with investigation of production escalations and issues.
  • Assist and recommend on architectural and technical decisions.
  • Participate in peer-reviews of solution designs and related code.
  • Assist and participate in production releases and updates that will further enhance our applications.
  • Work closely with the quality teams to ensure that standards are maintained.
  • Provide third-level support to business users.
  • Adapt and learn to work with other languages/platforms where required.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest relevant technological innovations.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Proficiency in microservices architecture and RESTful API development.
  • A desire to become a lead developer.
  • Awareness of AI Tools such as GitHub Copilot.
  • Good experience of working with relational databases, i.e. SQL and MySQL (including database triggers).
  • Good understanding of modern software architectures (e.g., microservices, event-driven, CQRS).
  • Hands-on expertise of AWS (ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, ECR, S3), Docker · Understand and can write unit tests (TDD, JUnit, Mockito).
  • Experience of version control such as GitHub.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn · Ability to work effectively within an Agile/Scrum team.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of CI/CD mechanisms such as GitHub Actions.
  • Familiarity with Agile tooling (Jira, Confluence).
  • Awareness of security best practices (OWASP, ISO 27001, ISO 27032).
  • Degree educated in a relevant discipline.
