Lead Audio Visual Engineer

Lead AV / Smart Home Engineer

Project Engineer

London & Home Counties | £45,000 to £55,000 + Company Van

Are you an experienced AV / Smart Home Engineer ready to take the lead on some exceptional residential technology projects?

We're looking for a Lead AV / Smart Home Engineer to take a key role in delivering high-end residential installations across London and the Home Counties, including super-prime residences and major private estate projects.

This is an opportunity to work at the upper end of the residential AV and smart home market, delivering sophisticated, fully integrated systems within some truly impressive properties.

You'll work closely with the Project Manager and take responsibility for the day-to-day technical delivery on site, leading engineers, coordinating third-party teams, solving technical challenges and ensuring every installation is delivered to an exceptional standard.

Importantly, this isn't a purely supervisory position. You'll remain hands-on technically, while having the responsibility to delegate, oversee the wider installation and develop the more junior engineers working alongside you.

If you're already a Lead Engineer, or you're an experienced Senior AV Engineer who's ready for the next step, this is a fantastic opportunity to take greater ownership of projects and progress your career.

The Package

  • £45,000 to £55,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • Company van available
  • 23 days' holiday + Bank Holidays
  • London & Home Counties projects
  • Work across super-prime residential properties and substantial private estates
  • Exposure to sophisticated AV, automation, lighting, networking and home technology systems
  • Genuine responsibility and opportunity to develop within the business

The Role

Working closely with the Project Manager, you'll take ownership of the installation and technical delivery of projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating AV engineers and third-party teams on site
  • Remaining hands-on with installation, termination, testing and commissioning
  • Managing daily workloads and delegating tasks across the engineering team
  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers, ensuring they're developing their skills and following best practice
  • Liaising with Project Managers, site managers, contractors, design teams and clients
  • Reading, interpreting and working from technical drawings and schematics
  • Rack building, patch panel termination and high-quality structured rack wiring
  • 2nd and 3rd fix AV installation, including displays, speakers, AV outlets, data and control cabling
  • Working with the Project Manager to produce patch panel layouts and loom schedules
  • Installing and commissioning lighting and blind control systems
  • Working with Lutron and Crestron
  • Installing and troubleshooting CCTV, access control, video entry and TV/satellite distribution systems
  • Installing and commissioning home cinema and surround sound systems
  • Commissioning DSPs and associated audio systems
  • Basic network configuration and troubleshooting, including VLANs, static IP addressing and VPN access
  • Using tools such as Crestron Toolbox, Domotz and network scanners
  • Fault-finding and resolving technical issues on site
  • Providing regular project updates to the Project Manager
  • Ensuring exceptional care is taken when working around high-value finishes and completed areas
  • Maintaining excellent Health & Safety standards across projects

What the Client is Looking For

We're looking for someone with a strong background in the high-end residential AV, smart home, home automation or custom installation sector.

You'll ideally have experience across:

  • High-end residential AV / Smart Home systems
  • Rack building and professional rack wiring
  • 2nd and 3rd fix AV installation
  • AV, data and control cable termination
  • Site leadership or supervision
  • Networking, IP addressing and VLANs
  • Cinema and surround sound systems
  • Lighting and blind control
  • Reading technical drawings and schematics
  • Electrical principles
  • Fault-finding and technical problem solving
  • Lutron programming and commissioning
  • Crestron Toolbox
  • Configuration and commissioning of associated AV and control systems

Experience with technologies such as Lutron, Crestron, 2N and Domotz would be particularly advantageous.

What Will Make You Stand Out?

We're not simply looking for someone who can install AV equipment.

We're looking for an engineer who can take ownership of a site.

Someone who can look at the bigger picture, understand what needs to happen next, organise the engineers around them and make sure the project keeps moving.

You'll be comfortable communicating with everyone from junior engineers and other trades through to Project Managers, consultants and clients.

Working within the super-prime residential market also means attention to detail is essential. You'll understand the importance of immaculate installation standards and taking exceptional care around bespoke interiors, specialist finishes and high-value properties.

Above all, you'll take pride in delivering exceptional work.

Who Could This Suit?

You may currently be working as a:

Lead AV Engineer | Senior AV Engineer | Smart Home Engineer | Home Automation Engineer | Residential AV Engineer | AV Commissioning Engineer | AV Site Supervisor | AV Technical Engineer

You might already be leading projects, or you may be an experienced engineer who's naturally become the person others turn to on site and now wants the opportunity to make that step officially.

Either way, we're particularly interested in people who want to combine:

Technical Expertise + Site Leadership + Project Ownership

Out-of-Hours Support

The position forms part of a weekend support rota, providing remote or on-site assistance when required.

Interested?

If you're an experienced AV / Smart Home Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, solving technical challenges and delivering installations you're genuinely proud of, we'd like to hear from you.

You'll have the opportunity to work on some outstanding super-prime residential and large private estate projects across London and the Home Counties, while taking a senior position within the engineering team.
