Assistant Director of Technology

Allen Lane is proud to be supporting the London Borough of Newham in their search to appoint an Assistant Director of Technology on a permanent basis. This is a truly unique opportunity to play a key role in the evolution of Newham's newly created Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) service, shaping the technical direction of the function whilst breaking down silos and working across traditional boundaries to deliver exceptional results.

The role

As the Assistant Director of Technology you will:

• Oversee the council's entire technology function including infrastructure, engineering, business systems and service delivery
• Set and implement technology strategy and standards, driving innovation and digital transformation whilst ensuring robust service delivery and operational excellence
• Lead cultural change to embed digital ways of working across the organisation
• Drive the adoption of modern technology practices, promoting agile methodologies and cloud first approaches.
• Establish and maintain robust governance frameworks for technology delivery
• Lead on technology initiatives, identifying and evaluating emerging technologies
• Be accountable for technology security and resilience, ensuring appropriate measures are in place to protect council systems

  Key skills required

  As an Assistant Director of Technology you will have:

  • Extensive experience in leading large-scale technology functions
  • A deep understanding of public sector technology challenges
  • Significant stakeholder management experience in a complex environment
  • A proven track record of service delivery and operational excellence
  • A real passion for innovation and continuous improvement
  • Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to inspire and empower
  • A background in delivering significant change & transformation from both a technology and culture perspective

    What you get in return

    A salary between £75,000 - £95,000 plus benefits which include the local government pension scheme, 31 days annual leave and much more!
