Principal Technologist

As Principal Technologist (End User Compute (EUC) Specialist), you will play a key role in designing and enabling the government’s strategic approach to end user computing in the public sector.

You’ll be responsible for shaping and delivering the strategy for end user compute services across a complex enterprise environment, ensuring that employees are equipped with the right tools, devices, and experiences to be productive and secure.

Your focus will span across hardware, software, and user experience – encompassing traditional end user devices as well as emerging technologies such as virtual desktops, device-as-a-service (DaaS), Windows 365, and AI-powered productivity tools.

You’ll work closely with Commercial and Digital Leadership, workplace strategy teams, service providers, and OEM partners to modernise the workplace infrastructure and deliver services that are resilient, scalable, and user-centric.

You will:

  • Provide expert technical advice on end user devices and end user compute services to support emerging strategy, policy and processes across government.
  • Work directly on high profile ministerial priorities that will shape the future of the government’s digital workplace.
  • Collaborate with commercial and technical experts in government to design coherent strategy for End User Device provision across the UK Public Sector, balancing value for money with sustainability and digital employee experience.
  • Stay ahead of emerging device trends (e.g. ARM-based laptops, hybrid working solutions, cloud PCs) and assess their impact on our digital workplace.
  • Define and evolve our standards for end user devices, software provisioning, and lifecycle management.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of device deployment models for a wide variety of organisations.
  • Collaborate with OEMs, system integrators, and managed service providers to deliver scalable EUC solutions.
  • Focus on enabling a consistent, secure, and performant end user experience across device types and personas across the public sector.
  • Support the integration of digital workplace tools such as collaboration platforms (e.g. M365, Teams) and endpoint management (e.g. Intune, Autopilot).
  • Contribute to policies, best practices, and service improvement plans.

You will have:

  • Proven experience in designing, delivering, and managing end user compute services in a large enterprise environment.
  • Deep understanding of device lifecycle management, endpoint architecture, and software distribution.
  • Knowledge of emerging EUC trends including Windows 365, cloud-native endpoints, AI-enhanced productivity, and automation.
  • Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, SCCM, and modern MDM/UEM platforms.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across IT, business functions, and suppliers.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • A mindset focused on innovation, service quality, and end user satisfaction.

Desirable:

  • Certifications in Microsoft Modern Desktop (MD-102), Windows 365, or relevant EUC platforms.
  • Experience in enterprise procurement or engagement with OEMs and MSPs.
  • Exposure to change management and digital workplace adoption strategies.
