Principal Applications Trainer

Job summary

The Principal Applications Trainer is accountable for leading on the effective design and delivery of a range of applications training packages to meet the ongoing needs of the Company across Technology, HR and other business areas as required. You will also be  responsible for the development, direction and ongoing mentoring of the EIS Project Clinical Systems Trainer network through dotted-line management, providing a quality-based framework for consistent high standards of delivery and learner experience.

Great communication skills are key for this role, as you will build relationships with both internal and external users of the applications including external vendors to support the operational efficiency of the systems. 

You will also be expected to work closely with Key Stakeholders, eg Head of Technology Solutions, Head of Technology Delivery and Programme/Project Managers, eg EIS Project Manager to provide timely updates on training activity, risks and issues and to pro-actively direct appropriate training resources to support rollout plans.

Main duties of the job

Lead the design and delivery of applications training across face-to-face and virtual environments, creating and maintaining digital learning content and supporting documentation aligned with software updates. Provide subject matter expertise to external content providers and oversee effective training delivery models. Deliver training to end users and Site Super Users, while managing evaluation processes to gather feedback and drive continuous improvement.

Support, mentor and provide direction to the Clinical Systems Trainer network and Site Super Users, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and development. Oversee training scheduling, attendance tracking and user engagement activities, including the development of User Groups to identify and recommend application improvements.

Analyse Service Desk call data to identify training needs, content updates and opportunities to enhance user adoption. Act as the escalation point for complex training-related issues not resolved by Site Super Users, the Service Desk or trainer network. Provide on-site go-live support when required to ensure successful system implementation and user readiness.

Key Responsibilities

Training Design

  Lead on the design of content for face-to-face and live virtual classroom applications training sessions

  Lead on the design of digital modules and documentation to support applications training plans, ensuring content is up to date and in line with latest software releases

  Provide Subject Matter Expertise to external content design providers for outsourced projects

Training Delivery

  Lead on the delivery model for effective applications training sessions (face-to-face and live virtual classes)

  Deliver training sessions to end users including designated Site Super Users

  Lead on an on-line evaluation tool to gather and analyse feedback data to inform continuous improvement across the network of trainers

Training Management

  Dotted-line responsibility for the EIS Project Clinical Systems Trainer network, responsible for their development, direction and ongoing mentoring

  Lead on process for the scheduling and attendance tracking of training sessions

  Be the Lead Mentor for Site Super Users, supporting the trainer network as required

Training Reporting

  Review monthly insights from Service Desk Call Log activity to ascertain changes to training content and additional requirements for training sessions

  Lead on the development of User Groups to inform recommendations for improvements to applications

Training Support

  Be the point of escalation for applications training matters that cannot be resolved by Site Super User, Service Desk or the EIS Project Clinical Systems Trainer network

  Provide on-site go-live support as required

Required Skills and Experience
  • Professional approach
  • Ability to learn new applications packages quickly
  • Experience of designing and delivering effective applications training packages
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey technical concepts and information to both technical and non-technical people
  • Good time management and organisation skills and ability to plan and prioritise workload
  • General understanding and experience of working with RIS and PACS environments
  • Demonstrable customer service experience in a busy healthcare orientated service environment
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of delivering and supporting the application layer of clinical IT applications with a focus on Radiology
  • Experience of mentoring and developing junior trainers
  • Passionate about technology and creating positive learner experiences
  • Able to manage multiple and changing priorities to constantly adapt to the needs of the business
  • Able to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and vendors
