D365 Finance & Operations Functional Consultant (Government)

A government client is seeking an experienced Senior D365 Finance & Operations Functional Consultant to join their Enterprise Systems team within the CIO function. This is a pivotal role focused on ensuring the smooth operation, support, and continuous improvement of finance and procurement processes within Dynamics 365.

You will act as the primary functional lead, working closely with finance, procurement, and project stakeholders to deliver operational efficiency, maintain compliance, and support ongoing system enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

Support & Incident Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for finance and procurement issues within D365 Finance & Operations
  • Provide day-to-day functional support to finance, procurement, and project teams
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve incidents and service requests within agreed SLAs
  • Collaborate with technical, development, and infrastructure teams to manage escalations and deliver long-term fixes
  • Log, track, and manage issues using Azure DevOps and Freshservice
  • Maintain and enhance functional knowledge bases and documentation
  • Ensure accurate configuration and business process documentation is kept up to date
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and continuous service improvement initiatives

Essential Skills & Experience

Functional Expertise

  • Proven experience as a D365 Finance & Operations Functional Consultant, ideally in a support or managed service environment
  • Strong experience supporting post-go-live D365 implementations
  • Solid functional knowledge across:
    • General Ledger (GL) - journals, allocations, dimensions, posting profiles
    • Accounts Payable (AP) - vendor invoicing, payments, workflows
    • Accounts Receivable (AR) - invoicing, collections, cash receipt
    • Credit & Collections - aging, dispute handling, credit management
    • Fixed Assets (FA) - asset life cycle, depreciation, disposals
    • Procurement & Sourcing - requisitions, POs, approvals, vendor processes
    • Project Management & Accounting (PMA) - WBS, budgeting, funding, cost control, revenue recognition
  • Experience supporting month-end/year-end close, budgeting, and reporting
  • Experience assisting with system enhancements, workflows, and configuration updates
  • Involvement in Microsoft monthly updates, regression testing, and system validation

Support & Process Expertise

  • Knowledge of ITIL processes (incident, problem, change management)
  • Experience using LCS, Azure DevOps, and Freshservice
  • Experience managing functional testing cycles and system updates
  • Understanding of compliance and reporting requirements (particularly within funded projects)

The D365 Finance & Operations Functional Consultant is required 6 months initially; hybrid working (2-3 days in the office); and is Outside of IR35.
