Altrad Babcock are specialists in the delivery of upgrade services to the nuclear, oil and gas, petrochemical and process sectors. The role of an erector / rigger are vital in any engineering construction environment. This apprenticeship requires you to apply through the employer's website.

Role

Off-the-job - Completing both practical training in a real working environment and gaining underpinning knowledge through classroom activities in our training centre in Tipton.

On-the-job - Working on an operational site in the UK alongside a qualified craft person applying the skills and knowledge gained in the training centre.

Duties include:

  • Establishing weights and characteristics of the load to be moved
  • Mathematical techniques and formula related to calculating sling angles, rated forces and the weight / centre of gravity of the load
  • Safe use of tools, equipment and accessories to complete alloted tasks
  • Ensuring lifting and moving equipment and accessories are serviceable and appropriate for lifting and moving
  • Positioning of moving and lifting equipment
  • Moving loads
  • Identify and recording damaged equipment

Training

Engineering Construction Erector Rigger Level 3.

Your training will consist of:

  • Health and Safety
  • Reading and interpreting drawings, specifications and lifting plans
  • Establishing weights and characteristics of the load to be moved
  • Mathematical techniques and formula related to calculating sling angles, rated forces and the weight / centre of gravity of the load
  • Safe use of tools, equipment and accessories to complete alloted tasks
  • Ensuring lifting and moving equipment and accessories are serviceable and appropriate for lifting and moving
  • Positioning of moving and lifting equipment
  • Moving loads
  • Identify and recording damaged equipment
  • MEWPS training

On-the-job - working on site alongside a qualified craft person applying the skills and knowledge gained in the training centre.

On the completion of the apprenticeship programme you will become a qualified Erector / Rigger based on one of our operational sites in the UK applying the skills and knowledge you have gained during your apprenticeship. 

If you wish to continue your development there will be opportunities to advance into a managerial role.
