DESCRIPTION
AWS is seeking a talented Principal Engineer focused on DevOps / SRE / Systems Development Engineering to join our dynamic Region Services team in the UK, based in London. This role involves implementing innovative cloud computing solutions and solving complex technical challenges to shape the future of cloud infrastructure. AWS builds and manages some of the world's largest internet infrastructures, providing scalable web services in the cloud, including compute, storage, and database resources.
The ideal candidate will be motivated by learning and innovation, working in a start-up-like environment that offers the opportunity to operate at a massive scale. Responsibilities include automating and improving operational workflows, resolving systemic issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and leading strategic initiatives in systems design, architecture, and process improvement. Utility Computing (UC)
AWS UC provides foundational and innovative services like S3 and EC2, supporting diverse AWS products including security solutions for cloud services.
Key job responsibilities
- Support and guide the department in preparations for bringing the ADC online, focusing on operational activity measurement, process adoption, automation, and quality improvement.
- Post-initial phase (2026), understand customer needs, develop new features, and design capabilities based on customer feedback, involving requirements gathering, design, and development.
Additional responsibilities include defining operational frameworks, mentoring engineers, fostering relationships with US teams, and promoting Amazons culture.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with complex distributed systems
- Excellent coding skills and mentorship abilities
- Expertise in systems design, both single component and distributed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in large-scale, complex, or regulated industries
- Start-up experience is advantageous
- Deep expertise in automation, security, and operational excellence; cryptography and cross-domain security experience are a plus
