Amber Labs are supporting a large-scale UK government transformation programme and are looking for an experienced AWS Data Architect to join the team.
This role will play a key part in designing and shaping secure, scalable data architectures within a complex public sector environment. You’ll be working closely with engineering and delivery teams to define data strategies, build robust pipelines, and ensure best practice across cloud data platforms.
💡 What you’ll be doing
- Designing and delivering end-to-end data architecture on AWS
- Defining data models, standards, and governance frameworks
- Building and overseeing scalable data pipelines and ingestion frameworks
- Working with engineering teams to implement solutions using services such as:
- S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, Athena
- Ensuring security, compliance, and data protection standards are met
- Supporting data migration and transformation initiatives
- Collaborating with stakeholders across delivery, product, and engineering
- Contributing to architectural governance and design reviews
🧠 What we’re looking for
- Strong AWS data architecture experience (essential)
- Proven background designing data platforms using services such as S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena, Lambda
- Experience building data lakes, warehouses, and ETL/ELT pipelines
- Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance in regulated environments
- Experience working within UK government or public sector programmes (essential)
- Solid knowledge of data modelling techniques and best practices
- Comfortable working in Agile delivery teams and contributing to design authorities
🚀 Nice to have
- Experience with streaming technologies (e.g. Kafka, Kinesis)
- Familiarity with GDS standards and government delivery frameworks
- Experience with data catalogue, lineage, and quality tooling
- Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid environments
