We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer with strong backend development expertise to join our team. The ideal candidate will be confident working with modern Java-based technologies, containerised environments, cloud platforms (Azure), and version control best practices. This role requires on-site collaboration one day per week in either our Leeds or Manchester office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot
  • Use Git for version control and collaborative development workflows
  • Build and deploy containerised applications using Docker
  • Work with asynchronous messaging patterns to ensure scalable and resilient system interactions
  • Deploy and manage applications within cloud environments, including Azure
  • Contribute to and follow CI/CD best practices for build, test, and deployment pipelines
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot
  • Proficient in Git for version control
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and containerised application development
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure (e.g., App Services, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure DevOps, or related services)
  • Understanding of asynchronous messaging patterns (e.g., queues, event-driven architecture)
  • Awareness of CI/CD practices and automated pipelines
  • Experience working on Central Government or highly regulated projects

Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to Kubernetes (K8s)
  • Experience working with SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol)
  • Multi-cloud experience (e.g., AWS and Azure)
