Your Role
Amber Labs is seeking an experienced Software Developer to join our growing engineering team. You will play a key role on a confidential government programme, designing and delivering secure, scalable, and high-performance digital services. This role requires strong backend expertise, a cloud-native mindset, and the ability to contribute at a senior level across architecture, delivery, and best practices.
What You’ll Do
As a Software Developer, you will lead the development of robust backend services and REST APIs using Java , working within a microservices and integration-led architecture . You will collaborate closely with DevOps and product teams, contribute to infrastructure and deployment automation, and help shape technical decisions to ensure systems are resilient, secure, and maintainable.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Java
- Build and support microservices-based architectures
- Design and work with event-driven and integration-based systems
- Implement Infrastructure as Code and deployment automation using Terraform
- Deploy and manage services within Microsoft Azure
- Containerise applications using Docker
- Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines
Your Skills and Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Java and backend development
- Proven experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
- Solid understanding of microservices and integration architectures
- Experience working with event-driven systems and messaging technologies
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure services
- Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure and deployments
- Experience with Docker and containerisation
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows
- Comfortable working in agile, collaborative environments
- Previous experience working on government or public sector projects
