Your Role

Amber Labs is seeking an experienced Software Developer to join our growing engineering team. You will play a key role on a confidential government programme, designing and delivering secure, scalable, and high-performance digital services. This role requires strong backend expertise, a cloud-native mindset, and the ability to contribute at a senior level across architecture, delivery, and best practices.

What You’ll Do

As a Software Developer, you will lead the development of robust backend services and REST APIs using Java , working within a microservices and integration-led architecture . You will collaborate closely with DevOps and product teams, contribute to infrastructure and deployment automation, and help shape technical decisions to ensure systems are resilient, secure, and maintainable.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Java
  • Build and support microservices-based architectures
  • Design and work with event-driven and integration-based systems
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code and deployment automation using Terraform
  • Deploy and manage services within Microsoft Azure
  • Containerise applications using Docker
  • Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines

Your Skills and Experience

  • Strong commercial experience with Java and backend development
  • Proven experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Solid understanding of microservices and integration architectures
  • Experience working with event-driven systems and messaging technologies
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Azure services
  • Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure and deployments
  • Experience with Docker and containerisation
  • Familiarity with CI/CD workflows
  • Comfortable working in agile, collaborative environments
  • Previous experience working on government or public sector projects
