Calibration Specialist - HVPT & Charging Systems (15+ Years Experience)
Role Overview
The Calibration Engineer – High Voltage PowerTrain & Charging Systems is responsible for precision tuning, optimizing and validating control parameters of electric vehicle across Customer vehicle programs utilizing the Customer Connected Architecture (MCA). With 15+ years of experience, the role acts as the architectural authority bridging vehicle-level product vision, achieve target for performance, efficiency, drivability, charging time and safety, user experience, embedded software, hardware platforms, and supplier solutions within a connected vehicle ecosystem.
Key Objectives
- Ensure achieve optimized powertrain performance, efficiency, drivability, charging profiles and safety of the vehicle.
- Calibration of control parameters for traction control, battery systems, seamless communication and energy transfer between vehicle and various charging infrastructures.
- Govern design decisions to meet performance, safety and cybersecurity targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement calibration datasets for MCU, BMS and ODC.
- Oversee testing of charging protocol validation to ensure compatibility with various charging infrastructures.
- Utilize drive cycle simulations and real-world test data to optimize energy consumption and thermal management.
- Root cause complex system level issues involving HV transients, communication timeouts (CAN/LIN/Ethernet).
- Author and maintain architectural views, system decomposition, and interface definitions (logical, functional, and physical).
- Provide architectural leadership during supplier selection, RFQs, design reviews, and technical sign-off with Tier-1 suppliers.
- Ensure architectural compliance with ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), ISO 21434 (Cybersecurity), SOTIF, and Software Update Management (SUMS) requirements.
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex, cross-domain technical issues impacting performance or delivery.
- Mentor senior and mid-level system engineers, promoting best practices in systems thinking and architectural discipline.
- Support long-term technical roadmap definition, enabling reuse and platform consistency across vehicle programmes.
Technical Competencies
- Deep understanding of architecture, DC-DC converters and inverters.
- Proficiency in tuning, torque characterization and regenerative braking logic.
- Expert knowledge in various charging standards (region specific) and protocols.
- Automotive networks: CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, SOME/IP
- Functional safety and system safety architecture
- Experience in calibration & measurement tools, Vector CANalyzer, CANoe, power analyzers, oscilloscope, HV breakout boxes
- Requirements and lifecycle management using tools such as JAMA, DOORS and JIRA
Leadership & Collaboration
The role requires strong technical leadership and the ability to influence across multiple disciplines including embedded software, hardware engineering, validation, functional safety, cybersecurity, and programme management. The role is expected to communicate complex architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior management and external partners.
Experience Required
• Minimum 15+ years of experience in automotive electronics and systems engineering
• Significant experience as a calibration expert for HVPT systems.
• Proven OEM or Tier‐1 experience in delivering solutions
• Demonstrated ownership of architecture across multiple vehicle programmes
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
