Senior Data Operations Manager
About The Role The Senior Platform Manager will fulfil a critical role in our media planning and investment workstream, working with- and evangelizing for our proprietary software platform. This role involves equal parts platform management, user engagement and technical work. This role has one direct report (for now). Platform Management
- Understanding problems facing our teams, and establishing whether we can help, and owning both the conversation and the solution.
- Stay ahead of the curve on major strategic developments on this account, and ensure that we are prepared for changes in scope or support.
- Evaluate the entire workflow/strategy, including elements outside of our immediate responsibility, to see if we can be working more intelligently.
- Take the lead on data quality, finding ways to quantify the quality, punctuality, completeness and accuracy of our data, and finding ways to improve all four.
- Along with your direct report, be the first point of contact for confused or lost users. Ideally not only resolving their immediate issue, but explaining to them why this happened and how to avoid it in future.
- If an issue is common or disruptive, consider how the platform might be tweaked to stop it happening at all.
- Engage with middle/senior management to ensure they are aware of what our platform can do, what it can’t do, and maintaining its presence in the broader conversation.
- When new functionality is deployed, immediately and assertively engaging with users and stakeholders to ensure they know how it works and what it’s supposed to achieve.
- Building, testing and deploying new functionality.
- Understanding the backend of our platform, and especially being aware of where the limit is in terms of what we can reasonably do.
- Having another look at some older elements of the backend to see if there are benefits to be found from rebuilding old functionality.
- Maintaining strong relationships with our developers and software engineers, as well as technical stakeholders outside of our immediate agency, including clients.
- Excellent communication skills:
- This includes technical communication skills, as you will be actively engaging with software developers/engineers, and must know how to speak their language.
- The ability to be clear, concise and patient with users, many of whom may not speak English as their first language and/or may be new to the industry.
- The confidence to speak for the platform in front of senior agency management and even senior clients, and to be able to answer their questions and establish yourself as the subject matter expert in every conversation.
- An aptitude for platform and reporting system development, how different teams of people with different skillsets can work together to deliver more data, higher quality data faster.
- Broad understanding of media buying, ad tech and taxonomies.
- A capacity to learn how different software platforms, and different parts of a single platform, pass data between them.
- Note that this role does not require any knowledge of programming languages, and you will not be required to do any actual ‘software development’.
- VERY high competence at Microsoft Excel.
- Strong Word/Powerpoint skills.
- Presentation skills, especially the ability to convey a technical subject to a non-technical audience, concisely and confidently.
- SQL, Python or similar.
- Regex.
- Expert-level familiarity with the rest of the MS Office suite.
- PowerBI (Tableau, MCI, etc also useful).
- Experience in building/calling API queries.
- Database management/data warehousing.
- Any other ETL platforms.
