Operations Support Engineer – Networks / Wireless Infrastructure (L2/L3)

💰 Salary: £37,000
🕒 Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
A leading UK connectivity and infrastructure provider is looking for an Operations Support Engineer to join its growing Network Operations team.
The Role
You’ll play a key role in supporting and maintaining large-scale wired and wireless network environments, ensuring strong uptime, fast incident resolution, and excellent service delivery.
This is a hands-on L2/L3 support role covering Private 4G/5G, DAS, Wi-Fi and core networking technologies, working across both remote support and on-site technical activities.
You’ll collaborate closely with engineering teams, offshore support partners, vendors, and customers to keep critical infrastructure operating at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and resolve L2/L3 incidents through ITSM platforms, ensuring SLA adherence
- Troubleshoot network faults across wireless, switching, routing, and infrastructure environments
- Carry out remote diagnostics and coordinate on-site maintenance activities
- Support hardware swaps, firmware upgrades, patching, and system changes
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative fixes
- Maintain accurate CMDB, network documentation, and operational runbooks
- Improve monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes
- Work with third-party vendors and escalation partners to drive timely resolution
- Support onboarding of new customer sites and operational readiness for deployments
- Provide clear stakeholder communication during incidents and service events
Technology Environment
- Enterprise Networking: Routing, Switching, VLANs, VPNs, QoS
- Wireless: Wi-Fi, Private LTE / 4G / 5G
- DAS / Small Cells / Mobile Infrastructure
- Monitoring: SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix, Prometheus
- ITSM / OSS Platforms: ServiceNow, Helix, CMDB tools
What They’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a Network Operations / Technical Support / Service Assurance role
- Strong troubleshooting skills across networking and wireless environments
- Experience managing incidents end-to-end in a live production environment
- Comfortable working with field engineers, offshore NOCs, and external suppliers
- Understanding of ITIL processes and structured service management
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Able to prioritise multiple issues in a fast-paced operational setting
