Salary: £45,500 – £59,000 + bonus + 7% pension

Our client is a major player in cyber defence and digital intelligence, operating across government and critical national infrastructure programmes. The work is focused on protecting complex, high-risk environments where reliability, security, and scalability are non-negotiable.

Role Summary

This is a DevOps Engineer position sitting within multidisciplinary teams delivering secure, cloud-based infrastructure and automation solutions across defence and government-facing programmes. The role is hands-on, technical, and delivery-focused, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure automation, CI/CD, and cloud engineering in highly regulated environments.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll work as part of agile engineering teams (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, XP environments), supporting the build and operation of secure, scalable platforms.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Supporting CI/CD pipelines and improving deployment automation
  • Working primarily in Azure or GCP environments
  • Writing scripts in Bash, Shell, or Python to support automation and tooling
  • Collaborating with engineers across DevOps, SRE, and infrastructure disciplines
  • Supporting operational reliability, monitoring, and system performance

Core Skills Required

  • Strong experience in DevOps, Infrastructure, or SRE environments
  • Hands-on experience with Azure or GCP (not AWS)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation)
  • CI/CD pipeline experience
  • Scripting ability (Python, Bash, Shell)
  • Agile delivery experience

Desirable Experience

  • Configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, or Chef)
  • Container platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes (or OpenShift)
  • Linux systems administration
  • Networking fundamentals (routing, firewalls, etc.)
  • Security or regulated environment exposure
  • Relevant certifications (beneficial but not essential)

The team operates in a high-trust, high-impact engineering environment supporting national security outcomes. Work is collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and focused on continuous improvement. Hybrid working is standard, with flexibility across office and remote locations.

Security & Eligibility

This role is subject to Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) at minimum. Higher-level clearance may be required depending on project assignment, typically requiring 5–10 years UK residency history.
